Yesterday ended is a podcast dedicated to the healing words of Jesus Christ and his story of redemption. Each podcast contains an original poem so that I can portray a confession of our faith of scripture in unique and succinct ways. Come with me on a journey to become a new creation and to declare old things dead and our life anew in Christ. What we meditate on will determine the direction and fruit of our lives. The victory we have in Christ can be felt in our everyday life. We can overcome depression. We can overcome fear. We can be confident. We can be free from worry. We can be free from anxiety. We can have emotional healing. We can have hope. We can be set free from our past. The Bible declares the goodness of God. The Bible is more than Christian psychology it is truth. The truth of God brings mental health, spiritual health and physical health. We can walk in peace. We can overcome the traumas of life.

I'm your host, Dennis Staubin, and I'm here to teach you about inner healing through identity. Give a listen. We have peace with God because of the sacrifice of Jesus. It's not about what we do or have done, but about what Jesus did for us at the cross. Our identity with the Father is based completely upon the work of Jesus. Jesus defines us. And like Jesus, we bear the awesome name of Child of God. Matthew chapter 3, verse 17. And suddenly a voice came from heaven saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. When Jesus Christ was baptized of John, as he emerged out of the water, he heard the Father's voice from heaven declaring his identity. This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. To recognize ourselves as children of God is a powerful aspect for healing in our lives. We are not orphans, we are not outcast. And considering that God Almighty is a king, then we are kids of the king. We are princes and princesses. We are royalty because we are children of God. Ephesians chapter 2, verse 6, and raised us up together and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, on the throne of God, and we were made to sit together in the heavenly places in Christ. So likewise you are seated on the throne of God. The next time shame or blame or condemnation tries to make you think you are less than royalty, quote this verse into the atmosphere and change everything. We need to remind ourselves and to declare to our enemy the truth of who we are. We are children of God. And God didn't stop in his description of Christ's identity with just being a beloved son. He said, In whom I am well pleased. So the question occurs, why would God be pleased with Christ? He hadn't done anything yet, he hadn't spoken a parable, he hadn't performed a miracle. Why was he pleased in him? Consider a man holding his firstborn child in his arms moments after the child's birth. The child has done nothing but been born. And yet that father delights in his child only because they are his child. God delights in you because you are his child. And even as the father forgave the prodigal son who denied him, of course, none of us have ever done that. At one point he ran to his son and fully forgave him and restored him into the family. My question to you today is how do you see yourself? How do you define yourself? Today I want to bring inner healing to you through your true identity as a child of God. Who do you think you are? This is usually spoken as a challenge. So I challenge you to answer it. Who do you think you are? Are you bold and confident or bottled up and closed? Do you sit in the corner or stand tall? Are you quiet or roar like a lion? Who do you think you are? Are you simply what your ID card says? Are you only flesh and blood, only human? Or are you filled with the Spirit of God, beloved of God, holy, righteous, and redeemed? Who do you think you are? It's time to stop thinking and start knowing. It's time to know the truth of who you are, a child of God with all power and authority. It's difficult to fit in a few words all the qualities of who we are as children of God. But as my poem began, I do want to challenge you to consider the truth of who you are and how you think of yourself. I want to get you to the point of knowing who you are as a child of God. When I wake up in the morning, I thank God and Jesus for a new day and begin to worship in the Spirit. One great key to walking in inner or emotional healing is knowing your proper starting point. When you wake up in the morning, how do you identify yourself? Are you the person who sinned yesterday? Or are you cleansed and forgiven by the blood of Jesus? Recognizing we have peace with God because of the work of Jesus is a great place to start with every day. Recognizing we are his beloved child, in whom he is well pleased, is a great place to start with every day. Recognizing we are spiritual royalty is a great place to start with every day, and we need to hold on to these things all day long. We all know we're not perfect. Oh darn. But do we know the depths of God's love toward us? Do we hold on to the love that Christ had for us and that he gave himself for us? Let this next truth sink deep within your soul. Second Corinthians chapter 5, verse 17. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. Years ago I heard a preacher teach about this verse, and unfortunately their concept of being in Christ turned out to be wrong. Their statement to be in Christ was to be in fellowship with God and his son, to be doing the right things. But when you look at the totality of verses concerning being in Christ, it's not about what we do, but what God has done for us. We see this perfectly in 1 Corinthians chapter 1, verse 30. But of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God and righteousness and sanctification and redemption. Of him, of God are you in Christ Jesus. God the Father placed you in Christ. God has placed us in Christ and made us citizens of heaven. All we did was believe on Jesus and confess him as Lord in our lives. He became our Savior and delivered us from our sin nature and the consequences of our own sin. Let this next verse also impact your soul. Romans chapter 8, verse 1. There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. I am quoting out of the New King James. The New King James and the King James and nine other versions of the Bible have the last phrase about walking according to the flesh of the Spirit. Two of those Bibles do include notes that say that phrase should be omitted. There are 17 versions that omit the phrase, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the spirit. I assume this is where that preacher got the idea that being in Christ depended upon our walk. First Corinthians chapter 1 clearly states that to be in Christ was an action of the Father. To be able to identify ourselves as someone who is no longer judged as a sinner, to be without condemnation, is radically liberating. God took you and placed you in Christ after he, through the sacrifice of Jesus, got rid of your old nature, your old sinful nature, and replaced it with a new holy nature. So now you are a new creation. Old things have indeed passed away. Behold, all things have become new. It's true you're new. So it's time to act like it. It's time to believe who God has made you and walk in that identity of freedom. Another side of identity that happens in our society too many times is we identify with the work we do. I make things out of wood, so I'm called a woodworker. But I'm so much more than that. That's my simple actions. Our true identity is not about us, but about what God has done for us in Christ. Some denominations, unfortunately, still identify us as sinners, saved by grace. I was a sinner saved by grace, but now I'm a saint saved by grace. Listen carefully to the next few verses. Romans chapter one, verse seven. To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints. Second Corinthians chapter one, verse one. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God and Timothy our brother, to the church of God which is at Corinth with all the saints who are in Alacacia. Ephesians chapter one, verse one. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God to the saints who are in Ephesus and faithful in Christ Jesus. The books of Philippians and Colossians also follow suit. We are saints. In the book of Acts, there are several more references to the believers being called saints, not sinners. And throughout the rest of the New Testament, there are repeated verses that identify the believers as saints. We are holy ones. We no longer have to wear the title or identity of being a sinner. By the blood of Jesus we were made holy. We have been sanctified. Put that on a t-shirt and wear it. I begin this podcast teaching about our place as children of God. I want to finish up with a couple more verses along those lines. Romans chapter 8, verses 14 through 17. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. For you did not receive the Spirit of bondage again to fear, but you have received the Spirit of Adoption, by whom we cry out, Abba Father. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our Spirit that we are the children of God, and of children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with him that we may also be glorified together. You have received the Spirit of Adoption. We are also born by spiritual birth, but you must also understand that in the Roman culture, adoption was a big thing. Someone who is adopted into a Roman family had all the rights and privileges of a child by birth. Another consideration about adoption is that it's definitely not accidental. It is a choice. God chose you to be his child. He picked you out. And because of that, we can cry Abba Father. When we were born again, we received his spirit. As we speak in tongues, it is a witness to that sonship. And not only are we children of God, but we are heirs. That's heirs of God, as in inheritance, not errors of God. He didn't make a mistake when he chose you before the foundation of the world. And also we are joint heirs with Christ. Everything that Christ received of the Father we share in. It's time to believe and act like the spiritual royalty we have been made. Receive this true identity and be set free from the lies telling you you're less than this. It's time to know who we are and live in that freedom and power. See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are. But the people who belong to this world don't realize that we are God's children because they don't know him. Dear friends, we are already God's children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. We are already God's children. That's who we are. And we're identified with Christ and made to sit in heavenly places in Christ. And there's a lot more to our identity than I could fit into this single podcast. I have other podcasts that teach more on this subject. The same is the structure in my book. There are two beginning chapters that are an overview of what it is to be identified with Christ. And then each chapter after that has an original poem that teaches in an artistic manner the principles I'm trying to get across. Knowing that you no longer have to identify yourself as a failure or a victim will set you free. It's time we thought better of ourselves. It's time to think the truth concerning ourselves. It's time to think what God thinks about us. You're his beloved child, in whom he is well pleased.
